Although we list this here as a standard product, no two we make are ever identical. We may use a standard bevelled mirror, but then hand make the frame to our customers' individual requirements. Typically, we use English character oak, sometimes dubbed 'catspaw' due to the shape of the knots, and will often incorporate other 'imperfections' such as bark to enhance the look.
We machine the planks to optimize the best figuring and burrs, often allowing the outer frame shape to follow the contours of the grain, emphasising the inherent movement of the timber. Judicious hand finishing with translucent coloured resin filler and essential oils to feed the wood ensures we bring out the very best from this beautiful natural material.
